InflammatoryMassesChalazionAchalazionisaninflammatory—buttypicallynotinfectious—massoftheeyelidthatresultsfromanobstructionoftheMeibomianglands.Itoftenpresentswithadome-likeelevationwithsurroundingerythema.TheMeibomianglandsaretheoil-producingsebaceousglandsontheposteriormarginoftheupperandlowereyelids.Itcanbeassociatedwithintenseinflammationandthereforecanbepainful.Ifthereisasuperimposedbacterialinfection,itmaybepurulent.Itiscommonlyassociatedwithrosaceaandchronicblepharitis.Treatment:Warmcompresswithgentlemassageinadditiontoeyelidhygiene.Minocyclineordoxycyclinemaybeusedformultipleandrecurrentcases.Itmaytakeweekstomonthstoresolvefully.Stye(ExternalHordeolum)(Styeonmediallowerlid)Astyeisanacuteinfectionofthesebaceousglands(glandsofZeisorMoll)oftheanteriormarginoftheeyelid(oftenStaphylococcusaureus).Itoftenappearstocenteraroundaneyelashfollicle.Itcanbepainful,hot,andswollen.Treatment:Spontaneousresolutionoftenoccurs;howeverwarmcompressesandtopicalantibioticointmentmaybeusedifneeded.BenignEyelidLesions/TumorsSquamousPapilloma(squamouspapillomafoundonupperlid)Thisisthemostcommonbenigneyelidtumorgrowth.Thelesionisskincoloredandcaneitherbesessileorpedunculated.Pathologyrevealsepithelialhyperkeratosisandacanthosisaroundacentralvascularcore.Itgrowsslowlyandoftenformsgroupsoftumorsinchildren,whileintheelderlyitmorecommonlyisisolatedasindividualtumorsorwidelyspacedtumors.Theetiologyisn’tcompletelyunderstood,butincreasedageisariskfactorandmay
