Basalcellcarcinomaofthelowereyelidmargin.Notetheulcerationofthesuperioraspect,thelesion’spearlyelevatedmarginsandmadarosis.Clickimagetoenlarge.BenignLesionsThelocationofmanybenignandpre-malignanteyelidlesions,suchasseborrheickeratosis(SK),actinickeratosis(AK)andBowen’sdisease,isrelatedtochronicanddirectsunexposure—makingtheiroccurrencemosttypicalonthelowereyelids.1,2Manyoftheselesionsareonlyofcosmeticconcern,thoughinsomecasestheycaninduceastigmatismoreyeliddisfigurementthatrequiresintervention. Chalazia.Thesearefirm,well-definednodulesinthesubcutaneouseyelidtissue,withinthetarsalplate.Theytypicallyformaschronicsequelaetoanacutemeibomianglandhordeolum.Chalaziaarecomprisedofconsolidatedlipogranulomatoustissue.3Theymaypresentwithacuteinflammationbutmoreoftenarenon-tenderandacosmeticaggravation.4Theytendtobefoundinpatientswithconcomitantblepharitisandmeibomianglanddysfunction(MGD).
